In the past few years, London has opened its arms to thousands of refugees from the around the world following global conflicts and crises. But despite this city being full of open-minded people who thrive on diversity, many of our new neighbours remain isolated and lonely.
Enter HostNation with a brilliantly simple idea to help change all that: they’re developing an online platform to help match refugees with new friends in their local area.
As part of the initiative, befrienders will be vetted, trained and supported by HostNation who will check in regularly to see how everything is going.
Ready to sign-up? Well, there’s one slight hitch. It costs around £100 to make a friendship happen – the amount required to cover the costs of the screening process, database building and reaching out to refugee service providers. To raise the funds, HostNation is running a crowdfunding campaign…. at the time of publication, there were 5 days left to pledge and just over £1,000 of the target remaining. In other words if 100 GOTilers donate £10 each, we can make this happen!
